Koalas, Mullets and a $50,000 Coin

Judging Begins Soon…
It has been an exciting few months at ACR HQ, each week opening our inbox to view the latest batch of entries in our $50,000 Crown Design Competition.
The creativity and artistic prowess on display has been nothing short of impressive, and we would like to commend every entrant (AI-excluded!) for their efforts in creating such imaginative designs.
As September draws to a close, our judges will compile their shortlists and begin deliberations to decide our winners. If you’re yet to submit a design – it’s not too late!
As a reminder…
Brief: “A design of any nature suitable to Australia, and the words AUSTRALIA 2027.”
No limit is placed on the coin’s design, except that it should be simple and modern. No monarch is required on your design. Both the obverse and reverse designs are required.
Prizes: 1st – $50,000 | 2nd – $5,000 | 3rd – $1,000
The winning design will be based on:
• Artistic merit
• Originality
• Relevance to theme
• Suitability for modern coin production

Australia’s rich wildlife: a recurring theme
It will come as no surprise that Australian fauna has emerged as the focal point of many designs, celebrating the depth and diversity of wildlife across our continent.
Nearly every animal you can imagine has appeared among the entries, from bin chickens to butterflies, with each entry presenting a unique take on appearance and personality.

And what are our animals without the ecosystems that surround them…

The next generation of collectors
It has been fantastic to see a huge number of entries from enthusiastic young artists, many of whom are new to the hobby of coin collecting.
Seeing your designs and creativity has been a joy, so much so that we think we may have to run another competition just for our ‘collector kids’. Stay tuned!

And kudos to all the parents who are encouraging these emerging numismatists!
Royal Australian Mint comes onboard
We’re delighted to announce that the Royal Australian Mint has officially come onboard to support the ACR Crown Design Competition, adding another exciting element to this year’s event.
The Mint shares our vision of celebrating coin design as a unique art form, and highlighting the creativity, skill and imagination that goes into the coins Australians collect every day.
As part of its involvement, the Royal Australian Mint will assist with judging the competition, bringing its considerable expertise in coin design and production to the process.
And the recognition won’t end with our three prize winners. Following the competition, a selection of entries will also be showcased in the Mint’s gallery, giving some of our talented entrants the opportunity to have their work seen by an even wider audience.
Alongside these exciting developments, we’re working on further initiatives with the Mint and look forward to sharing these in the coming months.
