Looks like the numismatic community has spoken – there’s a new must-have fantasy dollar in town, all thanks to Roxbury’s recent Swan Dollar auction.
October 22nd saw a short sharp sale devoted to selling nine versions of the ACR’s new Commemorative Swan Crown. The results exceeding even the boldest of predictions.
First up were four of the UNC aluminium-bronze patterns. All carried $100-200 estimates. Lot one consisted of #0001 of 3000 numbered examples. It took a very healthy $1,281. Lot 2 was #0888 and fetched $488. Lot 3 was #3000 and made $1,952; that’s $550 more than #0001. Lot 4 was unnumbered but came signed by the RAM CEO, Leigh Gordon. It scored a healthy $2,684.
Next up were four silver pattern crowns; one was BU and #0001 of 1,500. On a $150-300 estimate it made an easy $3,233. Next was a VIP proof, #002 of 100. It fetched $4,270 with an estimate of $250-500. The remaining two were FDC silver proofs numbered 001-750. They also carried $250-500 estimates. Number #101 sold for $2,135 and number #750 managed a neat $2,806.
Last but by no means least was a gold proof FDC pattern crown, number #01 of 10. Its $5,000-10,000 estimate proved by no means enough, needing a record $50,020 to find a new home. That puts it ahead of the finest 1967 gold example to come on the market in recent years (sold for $46,970 in 2023) showing these new Swans sure have something to sing about.
Subscribers to the ACR will sure be happy, with the #1 Certificate Silver VIP Proof set to be given away to one lucky winner this December. Given the #2 Certificate’s result, #1 is looking like a highly desirable Swan to say is yours.
Note, all prices include buyer’s premium.
