2024 Swan Dollar Announcement!

July 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the first issue of the Australian Coin Review. Over the 60 years, there have been countless changes in ownership and chief editors, including rebrands, joint ventures and collaborations with other numismatic magazines. Similarly, the Australian numismatic market has seen a number of ups and downs over the journey, which have led to today. Despite the turbulent times, the ACR survived this milestone largely due to the unwavering support of the collecting community.

The ACR has engaged the Royal Australian Mint to manufacture the 60th birthday commemorative 2024 dated Swan Dollar. Maintaining consistency with the original issue has been a painstaking process in developing the 2024 Swan Dollar with several unforeseen challenges contended with bringing the project to fruition. An interesting similarity in the pre-production process with the Mint was the flagging of potential striking issues with the reverse design. A very small adjustment was needed to the reverse die to prevent die pressure inconsistencies and deterioration throughout the production process. A problem faced by John Pinches in the original production delayed the first delivery of silver issues in 1968. The advancement of production technology and engineering at the Mint in the last 60 years resolved the problem well before the first coin was struck.

One major variation in the 2024 60th Anniversary release will attract the interest of readers and collectors: the addition of a brilliant uncirculated AlZnBr striking of the 2024 Swan Dollar, which will be free to all new and existing magazine subscribers. 

Another novelty of the new release will be the VIP silver proof issue case. It has been designed and themed like the popular 1966 VIP mint set from the Royal Australian Mint. Limited to 100 pieces, on December 1st, 2024, a prize draw will be livestreamed from ACR headquarters.

The Swan Dollars are expected to be delivered in September, and pre-sale opens on June 1st.
